Bariatric Surgery is a TOOL
It is NEVER the easy way out…
Is Bariatric Surgery Right For You?

If you are not interested in doing the mental and emotional work that goes with this process, then Weight Loss Surgery of any kind is likely not a good option for you.
So many struggles will pop up during this journey
Telling people around you
Navigating eating out
Weight regain & stalls
Becoming slimmer than people around you - it can trigger THEM
If you are an emotional eater, not being able to do that can cause further emotional distress
As amazing as this tool is, it is just that - a tool.

Weight Loss Surgery can be fantastic at normalising hormones. Particularly insulin issues. I had the surgery as I found studies that pointed to it helping me with Lipedema (which is driven by hormones) plus I have Hashimoto’s Thyroid Disease, so even though I was not a big eater (thyroid people often have no appetite) the surgery helped to normalise more hormones which then allowed me to lose the weight that was not Lipedema.
So if you have any kind of hormonal dysfunction, then this may be an option for you.

I have come across many people that eat a well balanced diet, don’t consume processed foods, seed oils or drink alcohol but still struggle with their weight.
Often it is just an inability to stop eating which can be tied up with Leptin resistance (another hormone issue) where the body does not recognise when it is full.
Again, these surgeries tend to even out the hormones and reset them, allowing for the weight loss to occur.

If these medications work for you then, having weight loss surgery may be a permanent, and less expensive, option in the long term, with potentially less issues with digestive upsets.
-
If you are older than 30, then it is likely if you have a lot of weight to lose you will end up with a lot of loose skin.
If having further surgery to rectify this is not a possibility for you, then think carefully if you are going to be emotionally ok with the results.
This is where, working with someone on the mental and emotional side of things also helps. Hit me up about a Deep Dive if you think I can help you.
What type of Bariatric Surgery is Right for You?
-
Gastric Sleeve (VSG)
A Gastric Sleeve (also known as VSG or Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy) is where 2/3 of the stomach is cut away leaving a straight tube for food to go down. The size of this tube is around the size of a cheese stick. The surgery is done through keyhole, and usually you are up and walking around within an hour or two of waking.
-
Gastric Bypass
A Gastric Bypass changes the way ou absorb food, allowing most of it to just go through. There are two kinds - Roux-en-Y where the digestive tract is sewn together in 2 separate places, and a Mini gastric bypass where the digestive tract is sewn together in just one place. This makes your stomach smaller and your intestines unable to absorb as much food.

Duodenal Switch
A duodenal switch combines both surgeries. There is an incredible lady that documents her journey with this procedure on Instagram under the handle of @fluscheeitaway, so if this is a consideration for you I highly recommend you check her out.
