Lipedema School

  • Lipedema, also called Painful Fat Syndrome” is a disorder of the lymphatics that 11% of women are born with.
One theory is leaky lymphatics, another is a missing peptide in the gut. Whatever the reason, the main issue is that lipedema fat, once it has leaked out into the subcutaneous tissues CANNOT be dieted or exercised away. This is the heartbreaking experience for so many women who think there is something wrong with them that they can’t get on top of this strangely arranged and shaped fat.

And there IS something wrong… it’s called Lipedema and it’s not your fault.

  • Lipedema is driven by hormones. It becomes apparent or is made worse at high hormonal times in life such as puberty, pregnancy and menopause. Because of this, keeping hormones stable is a priority and key part of Lipedema health.
Removing Estrogen Drivers from your diet and environment is key. These are generally all of the chemicals we consume and slather on our bodies.

Many studies are also starting to show that a Carnivore Diet - or at the very least a Ketogenic Diet is great at stopping the progression of Lipedema and to reverse any fat that is not Lipedema.

  • Getting a diagnosis is incredibly difficult, and as time goes by I will add a directory of practitioners to this platform, as most doctors have not heard of lipedema.

There are a couple of Lipedema Websites though that can help guide you. I was “diagnosed” by an oncology nurse who was giving me a lymphatic drainage massage. So while it was not official, I trusted her due to her extensive work with women in this area.

The main indicators are cuffs around the ankles, abnormally shaped lower body, but at the very least, column like legs with no shape, also extreme pain when having blood pressure taken, or when bumping into things. Easy bruising and visible balls of fat seen through the skin, and also you can feel these. Normal fat you can’t feel the globules under the skin.

  • Whilst you can’t diet or exercise Lipedema fat away, you can stop the progression of it.

    • Lymphatic Drainage Massage

    • Compressions for venus return and lymphatic flow

    • Rebounding - only get the hard kind, as the bungee kind may cause issues if you have hypermobile joints

    • Inverter machine for lymphatic flow

    • Grounding mat - for inflammation

    • Vibration plate to help release the fat

For reversal, Liposuction is required, and seeing a surgeon who is very familiar with lipedema. BUT, if you continue the same diet and lifestyle AFTER the surgery, the lipedema fat will grow back.

It’s NOT your fault!

This is something you are born with. Progression can be slowed, and there are surgeries that can reverse the diseased fat, however, if your lifestyle continues to drive your hormones it will grow back. You can see from my photo that although I have lost 60kg in the second picture, the lipedema is still evident.
